Sophie's new butterfly dress

Remember my post about our incredible 13 year old customer Sophie and her wanting to refashion her mothers old skirts into dresses for herself? Well here is the end result.... Sophie kindly emailed me the images of her great new dress - from start to finish. I'm glad she took photos!!!

Firstly Sophie measured the same distance up from the hem (all around) to finish at the bottom of the peak of the yoke. Then Sophie cut at that line removing the triangular yoke on the top of the skirt and kept the frill around the edge of the yoke and the skirt part.

Sophie wanted a stretch knit for the bodice - after we showed her a couple of colours - she chose a perfect Turquoise in Tessuti's Viscose/ Elastane 'Orbit' knit.

For the straps Sophie used the frill on the edge of the yoke on her mums skirt - and attached it to our 100% cotton soft webbing fold - over binding ( we stock this in approx 12 colours ). The finishing touch was adding large orange buttons from our button range. Cute touch with the pink criss crossing of the thread Sophie.

Sophie took all our suggestions on board and did a FABULOUS job on her first refashioned dress .It also goes to show how creative Sophie is.....she wasn't even aware that there is a whole craze about refashioning your old (but good) clothes. See here and here.

Stay tuned for more creations from Sophie.
