Pattern Review - Vogue 8181

While we are on the topic of jersey knits (see yesterday's post) - I am so pleased to show you all this stunning knit dress.

Donna came into Tessuti a couple of weeks ago and I remember chatting with her about this great Vogue 8181 pattern. Donna wanted to make up view C for a special occasion coming up.

She chose Tessuti's grey, heavy-weight viscose elastane for the main body of the dress and decided to use our metallic silver viscose knit for the bound and inserted shirring at the neck and sleeves.

Donna says "The metallic fabric is a much lighter-weight than the
body fabric and went together easily. The heavy weight grey was terrific for skimming, rather than clinging, but would be too heavy for the trim.

Changes to the pattern include shortening the sleeves, lengthening the dress and making a full bust adjustment. This was a bit trickier than usual due to the raglan sleeve. The extra fullness went into the gathering under the bust. There are gussets under the arm which are fiddly but allow quite a close fit for a raglan. Made me feel quite Princess Mary.

The metallic trim looks very luxurious and, I think, adds the drama of a big piece of jewellery".

A big thankyou to Donna for showing us the finished result - it's absolutely gorgeous and so beautifully made.

Note: Donna didn't add the shirred panel around the hem - I agree that the gathered neckline and sleeve detail is all that is needed in this pattern.
