Pattern Review - Vogue 8451

It's time to get back to doing what we enjoy best on Sew Tessuti, more pattern reviews!!!

Everyone loves a great t-top and here's a cutie - Vogue 8451, view A.

Georgia made this lovely top in Tessuti's Italian 100% mercerized cotton knit in 'Buttercup'. The only alterations made to this pattern, was when attaching the band onto the sleeve. Georgia did not follow as per the pattern instructions, instead she overlocked the folded sleeve band straight to the sleeve hem edge, stretching the band to make it fit and creating the same gathered effect. Georgia also made the sleeve and neck band slightly narrower than the pattern width - it really suits this light-weight knit and pretty style.

Remember when cutting your self binding for your neck or sleeves, I find it works to cut your band approx two-thirds the measurement of where it will be applied. This stops gaping and gives a nicer finish. But the amount of stretch does vary from knit to knit, so it's important to learn how the different fabrics behave. It doesn't hurt to test your knit before-hand.

Georgia attached her self binding on the fold - overlocking the two raw edges and attaching it to the right side up of the neckline and then turned it over to the inside. Hope this makes sense, otherwise a tutorial is in order!

Update: I did find this tutorial. Note the tutorial is done on a classic t-shirt neckline, but it also works well on this lovely scoop neckline (above) and a narrower band. Hope it helps.
