Making Waves and Bubbles

What a fantastic weekend! Here in Sydney we got a real taste of summer with perfect sunny days and beautiful balmy nights. We enjoyed eating fish and chips at The Boatshed with great friends and the girls even had there first swim of the season!

It was a perfect weekend too, to take photos of a sweet young lady in the maxi dress I made her for her birthday. I decided to make it in our lovely 100% Cotton Waves and Bubbles to go with the fabulous orange bauble sandals her mum bought for her, from Sambag.

I made a super easy and quick shirred bodice dress (no pattern required) - a great dress for all ages. I simply cut the 140cm wide cotton once the length for top part of dress and shirred 12 rows across the bodice - folding over the top and starting the first shirring row approx 1cm down to create a frilly edge. Then cut double the desired length for the gathered frill at the bottom and gathering it onto dress part. I also used our japanese cotton bias binding in Aqua Stripe for the contrast straps and edging on the hem of frill. Nothing to it and would look great in any length and works well in a jersey too.

I also managed to find the cutest little perspex birdie brooch from Scoops Designs at Published Art to go with it :-)

What did you get up to this weekend?
