Pattern Review - Simplicity 9825

We've featured this printed camel/black printed stretch woven before, here and here. We've now got Jo's lovely version in Simplicity 9825. This skirt pattern has several variations, all on the shaped yoke, including straight or a-line in ankle, calf and mini lengths.

Size 14 in View F was cut, so the yoked band sits just below the waist and Jo lengthed the skirt length by 6cm to finish at 49cm, which is in between the mini and the calf length versions.

Jo changed the order of assembly, attaching the yoke pieces to their respective front and back skirt pieces and did the side seams last, so that the fit could be easily adjusted if necessary. In the end Jo took in the side seams only slightly, possibly due to the stretch in the fabric.

The skirt was lined for easier wear over tights + warmth in winter, attaching the lining to the yoke facing and then stitching in the ditch under the black trim around the base of the yoke. Lining then hangs loose underneath in the usual way.

Jo says that next time she makes this skirt again in a cotton/elastane,as well as interfacing the yoke, she'd add a cotton tape to the inside of the waistline facing seam to provide extra stability.

Finally Jo added that this pattern is now a "Tried and True" one and will make it over and over as she loves the fit and how easily it comes together.

We love it too...it's a great basic!
