'FREDDIE VEST' Sewing Class @ Tessuti Melbourne - Saturday 7th July (11am-4pm)

THE MAKERS JOURNAL are two Melbourne designers producing a beautiful new collection of sassy and girly sewing patterns.  We will soon be stocking some instore and online, and to celebrate the launch Jo and Pamela will be hosting a FREDDIE VEST sewing class.  The design for the vest was inspired by the great Freddie Mercury and is cut to sit high in the back with a lower relaxed front.   

The girls will begin with an introduction and review of the different ways you can trim your vest.   It looks particularly good when you combine different textures, colours and prints together.  If you'd like some assistance with fabric selection they will be on hand an hour before the class begins to help out. Be warned though...they love to mix things up!

This class is best suited to sewers with an intermediate to advanced skill level and includes laying out the pattern and cutting your fabric, straight stitching, topstitching, working with elastic and ribbons, making tucks and casings, gathering, bagging out and hand sewing. The vest combines interesting pattern shapes with lots of different techniques and you're sure to pick up a few tips from the girls along the way.  Each step will be demonstrated and they will then be on hand to guide you as you complete your project.

The pattern comes in sizes 8-14 and is included in the total cost of the class ($100). Body measurements are listed below:

Tessuti will offer a 15% discount on fabric and other notions purchased in store on the day of your vest-making class. Below is a list of what you'll need to bring/purchase:

Ribbon/ Tape for ties   14mm x 90cm

As well as your fabric, ribbon and elastic you will need to bring your own pins, measuring tape, paper scissors, fabric scissors, needle and matching thread.  You are welcome to bring along your own sewing machine if preferred. Class will be strictly limited to 5 students and bookings must be made online here (please be sure to select correct class).
