Today I started working on the toile for my daughter's school formal dress. I'm using a Butterick pattern for the base with some slight changes. It's looking good so far, just need to make the necessary fit adjustments to the pattern, ready to make another toile before I cut into the actual (gorgeous!!!) fabric.
I thought it'd be fun to post updates from start to finish to record all the stages, in the hopes that I create a beautiful dress that she'll be proud to wear. Wish me luck!
It does look gorgeous so far........will be great to see the progress. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeletethanks Susie!
DeleteFormal, already!? Where does the time go??
ReplyDeleteyep Em! Hard to believe isn't it?
DeleteI am SO jealous! As of today, I'm officially no longer a school mum. My daughter's year 12 cohort finished up today and there's just exams and graduation ball to go.
ReplyDeleteShe WON'T LET ME MAKE her grad ball dress! (Hence the jealousy - and much smaller bank balance, as the only dresses she's liked so far when out shopping have been of the $500+ variety.)
I am, however, making my own dress to wear to the ball. Purple satin-backed crepe (or is that crepe-backed satin?) and matching purple chiffon for Butterick 4343. Floor length, one shoulder, princess seams. I've traced off the pattern so far, really need to work on actually starting on the muslin!

you must be sad and a little relieved, without the stress. Yes we went out shopping and nothing we liked was below $500!!! Was very happy that she was ok with me making the dress and I'll take it as a very good sign that she's excited with the calico version so far!
DeleteGood luck with your ball dress it sounds lovely and hope your daughter enjoys her final school festivities...to be young again!
Good luck! :) I can't wait to see progress updates. It's always interesting to see the work that goes into fitting and creating lovely dress!
ReplyDeletethanks bernieandi!

ReplyDeletethank you! I sure hope so :)
DeleteCan't wait to see the finished dress and the fabric!! My kids give me eye rolling when I go on about fabric but I tell them they will be grateful when they are older and want lovely unique clothes. Ingrid
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting Ingrid,
DeleteIt's at this age that they usually apppreciate it and soon enough all their friends will wish their mother could sew too!
Beautiful dress!
