Making Time For Lacy Linda

I've recently re-joined Bernadette's general sewing classes....it really is the highlight of my week! I get two blissful hours to myself, hang out with some lovely ladies and get to finish all of the UFO's that are piling up around here. One just project, is this skirt my daughter Gabby has been begging me to finish.

I made up Maisie Black Bloom cotton/nylon lace (also available in red and navy) in Burdastyle's Linda skirt pattern. I altered the pattern slightly by making the circular waist larger, to be gathered onto the waistband – this added fullness and was ideal as I didn’t want to line the skirt. I also widened and cut the waistband in two pieces to add a gathered frill to the top, to give a high waisted look. Instead of interfacing the lacy band I basted silk organza to both sides of the waistband for added stiffness.

This thicker lace was perfect to leave raw edged at the hem…I was worried baby locking the edge (like to ruffle) would be too fussy. Do you think a self-covered skinny belt made up in this lace….would be an idea?
