Pattern Review - The Sunki Dress

You've all heard of the Christmas miracle, right? But have you ever heard of the birthday miracle? Well, here it is readers - E's birthday make, sewn and completed TWO WHOLE WEEKS BEFORE HER ACTUAL BIRTHDAY. Man, I am patting myself on the back so hard I have a little bruise over my left shoulder.

This dress pattern is one that I'd earmarked since I made these pants. It's the Sunki Dress by Figgy's and a few clever design details set it apart from a simple shift dress.

The fit of this adorable dress runs slim and the finished length (depending on the leg length of your little one) is mid-thigh.  If you have a little one in between sizes we suggest using the larger size.  If your little one has long legs we suggest measuring the pattern and adjust accordingly. - See more at: http://figgyspatterns.com/patterns/sunki/#sthash.W4BGtvgk.dpuf

** Included in each Figgy’s pattern you will receive a little something extra especially for you, a lovely woven label is included . These labels will enable you to give the garment a professional finished touch and it states clearly that this garment has been lovingly crafted by hand!

Overall, it's a pretty straightforward sew. The only fiddly part are the pockets but Shelly has done a neat little tutorial which I only discovered after the fact - of course. The front/back shoulders have a sweet little overlap and the sleeve features four small pleats.

The pattern's product description does state that the dress is a slim fit and recommends going up a size if making for a little one that sits between sizes. I made an 8/9 with a three quarter sleeve and the fit is perfect, although retrospectively I would've added a bit more to the length. The pattern is designed to finish mid-thigh which is precisely where E's finished up. So if you want more dress/less tunic, check the pattern measurements and add accordingly.

The fabric - Ocean Fields - is a textured blue and grey cotton/elastane and sold by the panel. Melbourne's all out but there is still limited stock available at Surry Hills. It's also available in this grey/cream colourway - Grey Flights - at our Chatswood store.

Now please excuse me while I take myself off to a corner and try to come to terms with the fact that I have a nine year old...
