Strapless Celestial Top using McCalls 6038

I made this strapless top for Gabby using the bodice pattern from McCalls 6038, only adding a gathered frill (9cm deep) at the top. The frill hides the elastic casing underneath and the navy cotton torchon lace trim adds a nice contrast to Liberty Of London cotton tana lawn Celestial Blue ( still available at Tessuti Melbourne).

I lengthened the bodice approx 5cm and made a casing at the hem for 9mm elastic. Another similar version can be made using this pattern from Burdastyle.

  1. I love it...easy peasy...now I can't really here now in wintry Chicago. But I would add some 'home' knit trim. I'm big into knitting (hence the Yarn U iphone app) and I'd like to try some of those Victorian patterns for knitted lace. That would be a great embellishment on a top like this. Great conversation piece too.
