Thanks to everyone who entered our 2013 Tessuti Gridlock Sewing Competition. We're Gridlocked-ed out, and wouldn't be at all surprised if you were too, but wowsers - what a response! ....just a little bit more....
....Sandra and her 'Lekaloru' Coat!
Sandra's amazing coat is a hybrid pattern drafted from a mix of the Lekala 4170 raincoat with the essence of Sewaholic's Minoru Jacket and a dash of Green Pepper 120 on the (zip pocket) sides. That's quite a combo! Sandra says...
I started with the Lekala coat as my block, combining the bodice, set in sleeves, contrast bands and center back box pleat with the collar, hood, CF zip placket, elastic shaping (to replace back waist darts) and hidden inside pockets from the Minoru. The external zip welt pockets are from The Green Pepper 120 jacket. A lining was then drafted from the main pattern pieces with an allowance for wearing ease. This concept pattern was toiled to check fit and happily (because the Lekala coat used for the block was drafted to my measurements) the only change needed was a square shoulder adjustment with reduced shoulder width. The end result, a casual stylish knee length fully lined coat that can be worn with skirts or trousers, with the hood in or out and with an optional double-sided belt.
Congratulations Sandra - we'll be in touch to arrange your $1000 prize! For a more detailed description of the winning design, take a look at Sandra's review over at Pattern Review.
------------

- you love minimal size and design restrictions
- you're a very encouraging and supportive bunch when it comes to your fellow sewing lovers and enthusiasts.
Keeping all of these points in mind, and due to your overwhelming support of the competition, we will surely be running another similar event down the track.
