Party frocks

So we've posted about the Melbourne Christmas dinner but would you like to see our frocks?

After spotting this blog post way back in Oct 2009, I stalked every vintage pattern seller until I finally found one on eBay a few months back. Vintage Vogue 7164.


After angst-ing over what fabric to make it up in, I then combined that angst with my what-am-I-going-to-make-for-the-Christmas-party angst and then after I added my mandatory pre-Christmas when-the-hell-am-I-going-to-get-time-to-make-something angst, I finally pulled my proverbial together and finished it with - I kid you not -twenty minutes to spare before I was out the door.

The fabric is another beautiful tie-dyed linen (sold out) that I wanted to make up into a simple garment with clean lines, and this pattern fit the bill perfectly. As is the way with most vintage patterns - and in combo with my limited height - I had to take quite a bit off the length. But what I love most of all about the dress is the in-seam pockets.

    Love them all! The tie-dye fabric is to die for, Lisa. Are you going to make it up in a ponte like you were planning some months ago?

    Wow! They're all great dresses, you're all very talented. If anyone turns up that elusive Vogue pattern, could they please post to let me know? I've done a rather comprehensive search online but it seems to be as rare as the proverbial hen's teeth!

    Thanks, Lisa for reading my blog. I love your version of that dress. I would never have quessed it was the same pattern, yours is so funky and fun while the pattern makes it seem so staid and ladylike. Great job! Now I'm thinking that I need to add this to my ever growing list of projects for the spring. Perhaps in ponte roma for my work wardrobe and then a light cotton for the summer?
